Ways to Practice
- Use Positive Affirmations
Affirmations are positive statements that you repeat to yourself to help shift your mindset and focus on the good in your life. Gratitude affirmations can help you develop a sense of appreciation. Here are some examples I use for Gratitude affirmations.
-“I am grateful for my life and all that is provided for me”
-“I am thankful for the people who love and support me”
- Gratitude in Challenging Situations:
Challenge yourself to find gratitude in difficult situations. When you look for lessons, growth opportunities, or silver linings in challenging experiences, you shift your perspective which can help you find gratitude even in adversity.
For example, in 2020, I was suddenly laid off from my last employer. I could have handled this situation in two ways; One panic and immediately stress about bills and employment or Two assess the situation and find the positive aspects in it. I decided to go with option two. I realized my sudden layoff was a blessing in disguise and now I have the opportunity to grow and achieve my goals.
- Random Acts of Kindness:
Show gratitude to others by performing random acts of kindness. It can be as simple as complimenting another individual or offering assistance. Being kind and appreciative toward others helps to bloom a positive mindset.
- Morning/Evening Gratitude Practice:
Learn to begin and end your day by consciously expressing gratitude. Taking a few moments to think about the things you are grateful for helps to create positive thoughts.
